Automatically switch to headphones without prompting? Aspire 5

Hi.  My learning-disabled son likes to use my Aspire 5; he plugs in the headphones but the audio doesn't switch to headphones unless you confirm when prompted.  He doesn't understand how to do that, but he also doesn't like me to interfere - so he sits there wearing his headphones with the sound blaring out of the speakers, which becomes annoying when it happens daily!  So what I would like to do is adjust a setting somewhere to automatically switch audio to headphone output when the headphones are connected without the user having to confirm.  Is this possible and how do I do it?

Thanks for your answer.  It's hard to make that Realtek driver go away isn't it?  I'll keep repeating as you suggest and let you know how I get on
