I run this PC 24hrs and I run Grid computing when it's not in use.  Every so often in the morning the PC is locked up (reason not found yet) and the monitor is shimmering.  Not flashing, just shimmering.  When this happens I turn everything off at the wall for 5 min and reboot, but the shimmer stays there for at least another 15 minutes.  It hasn't happened at any other time but I'm concerned that this might be the beginning of a more serious failure.  Monitor is running off display port.

The 5 minutes isn't really enough time to fully bleed all power off to the monitor, so it'll wake up with the same settings as it went down with. What you likely want to do, until you find the culprit, is press and hold the power button on the monitor while power is fully disconnected for 30 seconds or so, then see how long you need to leave it down before reconnecting power. For a full reset we typically suggest 15-30 seconds on the power button and 15-30 minutes off power, but you should be able to get by with less. The key is giving enough time for the residual power to fully bleed off...

Thank you I'll try that.  Actually, I'll do that and then leave it off all night and see if the shimmer returns if it locks up again.
    Cheers
