I noticed the top left of my screen had a burn in image of desktop icons and some parts of browser windows, only the top left part of the screen. By turning off the monitor for an extended period of time this was resolved. Resolved as in the image retention that I could recognize seemed to go away. However while the image seemed to fade one thing remains is a really nasty grainy effect that appears on greys especially. I've included a picture taken from my phone that highights the effect under a light grey background where its very obvious. It doesn't really have a cloudy effect in that I would expect if it was dirty. It leaves a very pixelated grainy effect that appears to be cloudy in nature.

What is really surprising is that the more I reduce the refreshrate, the more it goes away. I have NEVER overclocked the monitor, but going from 144 which is what I ran it at before to 60hz virtually completely erases the issue (you can barely make it out if you try really hard). No smoke, heat, dust, or any damaging material has been in contact with the display. Its not overly hot as far as I can tell.

Not sure even how to explain what this is as I'm having a hard time finding similar cases.

I have not had any issues with this screen up to this point.

I wonder if it can be traced to how bright the pixels are getting lit? At 144Hz they get refreshed more than twice as often as at 60Hz, so would be driven more often at the high values a bright screen uses. Try dimming things down at 144Hz to see if that alleviates the issue.

Hey I have had the same problem for 2 years. I sent the monitor in to Acer for repairs but they were not able to replicate the problem (they also left a massive gouge on the top of the monitor from improperly packing the return shipping). Thanks for the tip about reducing refresh rate. I will just run it at 100 hz from now.
