I have had the ASPIRE 3 a315-54 for a few months and it has always worked fine on a second monitor connected via a hdmi cable.  Plugged in today and switched on and the second monitor can't be detected.  This seems to have followed some kind of windows 10 update .

Open ControlPanel. Search 'restore point'. Click 'create a restore point' in left pane. In the box that pops up, is SystemProtection turned on? If yes, click the SystemRestore button. Click next. Select automatic restore point with a date stamp within the last few days. Jack E/NJ

Try pressing Fn+F5 to turn the monitor on. Jack E/NJ

I have been through all the basics , fn/F5, reinstalling display drivers , checking the HDMI cable , checking the monitor , plugging the laptop into another display device.  This was working a few days ago when I last used it but not now.

Thanks for this, my laptop has just installed yet another windows update and surprise surprise everything starts functioning again.  It maybe that they removed whatever they had done.

Good. That's probably it. Make sure SystemProtection is turned on just in case another update messes it or something else up again. Jack E/NJ
