My newly purchased laptop shows almost out of warranty?

I had purchased my Aspire 3 laptop from an official Acer store on 1st February, 2020. The purchase bill stated a SN that was different from what the Acer care app installed on my laptop showed, and the store guy mentioned that my laptop has 2 different serial numbers which is normal, and I'm supposed to mention the SN number in my bill document for any service or repair claims. Today my keyboard went kaput, as laptop won't turn on unless I keep any random key (except power button) pressed for the entire time I use my laptop. I went to Acer India website to check my warranty and register a repair claim. I was surprised to see that my SN showed me a warranty expiration of 21/07/2020, which is literally 5 months after the purchase date. I then entered the SN number showed in acer care app, and it showed me a warranty expiration date of November 2019. Why does my warranty date show incorrect? How do I make it right? The shopkeeper told me that warranty starts from the date of purchase and I have nothing to worry, but seeing that I need to book repairs online only (the system will say I'm almost out of warranty), what do I do?

    I'll ask tomorrow when the working hours resume, it's past working hours now. It's brand new as far as I know, at no point the shopkeeper told me that it was refurbished or a used product. There were a couple of programs installed in laptop (Office 2007, VLC etc.) when I was checking out the laptop before buying, but I did not think of it as a big deal and formatted the laptop after I bought it.
  • Contact technical support to inquire about the warranty term as well.

    I wanted to know cause I'm facing the same problem.

    This sounds a lot like someone bought it and returned it without there being anything wrong with it (open box). In those cases, sellers will often seal the box and resell the laptop, not even thinking about the warranty. If the seller cannot help you fix this, then they need to allow you to return it and exchange it for another (actual) NIB model, or refund your money. I actually ran into a seller a few months ago that sold me a refurbed laptop as new, and I had the same situation with the warranty. I returned it because I wanted the full warranty. Besides, how could I expect the OEM to fix something the seller did?

If the seller cannot help you fix this, then they need to allow you to return it and exchange it for another (actual) NIB model, or refund your money.
