Acer Spin 3 bracket defect

I have an Acer Spin 3 we purchased December 2018 so it's 18 months old and out of warranty.  The brackets that hold the screen failed and it broke the screen.  I took it to a repair shop and they said we should contact Acer for a fix or replacement even though out of warranty because it was a manufacturer defect with the brackets - they just were very cheaply made and literally fell apart.  The computer has been well cared for and we've not used the flip feature much so it is not from abuse.  However I cannot get through to Acer to speak with anyone.  As soon as I enter our SNID it sees we are out of warranty and sends me to a 3rd party who charges a fee.  Does anyone else have this issue?  Is there somewhere I can speak with an Acer agent?  Their customer service seems to be non-existent.  Even if they won't repair it they should know about the problem.  I paid $650 for this laptop and my $275 Chromebook has held up better:(
