Problem No. 1 - New PH717-71 very low mic level especialy when using sennheiser g4me zero headset

Hello guys,

brand new predator helios 700. BIOS 1.10 (win 10 pro) - original drivers from acer - I had this problem with mic input low level already on previous predator 15. But there it has been possible to bosst the level by using windows boost.

The problem is, that on the new predator 700 helios even with the boost settings set to +30dB - it is simply ignored. no change at all. I am able somehow to use the internal mic of the laptop but it is very silent as well (or at least it looks when testing the input signal in w10 enviroment) - if boostet it catches lot of enviromental noises. But definitely I am unable to use my headset

... it is the flagship of Sennheiser G4ME ZERO . I already called to our acer support and they just confirmed I have nothing wrong on my end.

I bought another in this case koss headset because I simply need to use it because of my work. So I will test and see when receive but definitly this looks more like problem with drivers cause the sennheiser headset is working with another laptop excepting both predators flawlessly. And I am not alone with this problem I saw this topic at reddit as well as in example here ... https://forums.tomsguide.com/threads/new-sennheiser-game-zero-extremely-low-microphone-volume.110940/ . It is really !!!! for acer to have the TOP flagship gamming laptop worth almost $ 5000 and experience such fundamental problems

So any Idea what I could do more?

Have you checked for any specific microphone settings on the reltek audio console? Can you send some screenshots?

Sure, same settings as you can see in the realtek console on my screenshots. Btw: I tried the test, so you can now see on my screenshots the max mic level reached

Can you tell the audio driver idhardware? That way, we will be able to check if there is a newer driver through google.

HMMM ... not solved. So after 12 second battery reset -> I started the zoom app. There it has been looking ok - however it is not. After that I tried the standard realtek and system settings again. The weird thing is ... regardless on the system MIC BOOST settings the results of the standard MIC test are still the same. 6%-10% with headset connected and slightly higher when using standard array - 22% .

So it definitely does not react to BOOST settings at all.

So, I've just received @ tested brand new KOSS HEADSET GMR-545-AIR and can clearly say, that the problem is definitely not in headsets. Because I am experiencing 6% level of microphone as well as on my sennheiser G4me zero

... so problem is in notebook's hopefully drivers only - definitely.

Yes, that was first I did (picture 1).But have you already Win 10 build 2004? My standard sound setup (control panel look) menu looks different than yours. So definitely another version (see picture 2)?

Btw: this is strange thing definitely ... I am missing stereomixer as well in audiodevices - recording -

... so that is really a mistake of driver. (even if I have checked "show hidden and disabled devices")

If not resolved, does the same problem remain when you uninstall and exceed the audio driver?

It would be interesting to see if the problem is solved with the driver provided by microsoft.

Heh? ... you probably missed the sentence which ist there clearly visible even in what you quoted ... "but after further analysis is not solved" ... so I repeat I did not thell that this is solved at all. I only told, that it has been looking promissing but after deeper analysis was NOT.

No, the version of windows that I have installed on the notebook, is the 2004 home edition version. Now, as you mentioned in 2004, did these problems occur after installing windows 2004? What happens when you return windows to acer stock version?

I won't go for win 10 home since I am using laptop for serious work as well. Imagine that my migration from previous predator took more than 1 full week since I am recording using cubase and a lot of its plugins, i. e. full komplete ultimate (1 TB). Thanks for understanding.

I am convinced the problem is in driver of sounddevice, because this is clear sign something is strange - when stereomixer is absolutely missing:

What happens when you uninstall the realtek audio console and set it to 30 decibels in windows sound settings only?

As I maybe initialy wrote - nothing - this was already discussed with support, I have been looking for solution even in bios ... but nothing as well (no option regarding such settings in bios at all). It really ignores boost sets ´in windows.

Thank you very much for your effort. However we can stop - I have got official answer from acer support - I will translate:

"Hello,
thanks for provided details. We have analysed provided informations and it is system error in Windows, actualy being fixed by MS. Solution/fix will be implemented in Win 10 /2004 / 20H1. Unfortunately we don't have more informations from MS side than these. .... "
