Can’t wipe old Aspire 5600 Windows Vista

I’m trying to wipe my old Aspire 5600 with Windows Vista that was pre installed. Help!

    What have you tried so far? Do you want the computer to still be usable after cleaning it, or do you want to get rid of everything in preparation for junking it?

    OK, that shouldn't be too hard... :) Boot to a Windows install image, you will need a MBR image, not a GPT, but you can use Rufus to create that from a Windows ISO. After choosing your keyboard select the Repair option and go to the command prompt. At the command prompt do a "format C: /fs:ntfs /p:2". That will rewrite every sector with first a zero then a random number then a different random number. That makes good and sure your data can't be retrieved without a lot of expense. Next use the diskpart command to "list disk", "Select disk x" where 'x' is the number of the drive in the list and the "clean". That will remove all the partitions on the drive and leave it completely blank. At that point you can recycle the machine whatever way your feel best, you are safe.
