I have an xc-603 with windows 8.1 that has been idle for several years, recently I found the windows 8.1 failed to activate, I tried to reset the whole computer, still can not activate.
How can I reactivate it?

You may have to contact Microsoft. They have an 'over the phone' activation that works by typing in about a bazillion numbers... :)

Have you got the XC-603's Windows 8.1 Key and have you got a Microsoft Account? As that is what you need! Try to activate this way:
    1. Boot into Win-8.1
    2. Make sure that Win-8.1 is logged into your Microsoft account
    3. Go to Activation and put the Win-8.1 key into the activation slot to get Microsoft to verify your key and register you as an "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account"
    4. Get that registered and then upgrade to Win-10 Pro (do a clean install of Win-10) as Win 8.1 key qualifies you for a Win-10 Pro key and digital license. This should qualify you as that is how I've registered allot of computers (even just lately) and it worked with even a Win-7 key.
    5. I strongly suggest that you upgrade to Win-10 and do a "Clean Install of Win-10"! Get an 8GB USB thumb drive and go to "Create Windows 10 installation media" (from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10) and download the "Media Creation Tool" onto the 8GB USB drive from here > Download tool now and then boot into Win-10 setup, install Win-10 and put the Win-8.1 key into the space (when asked by Win-10 installation process) and let the installation register and activate you for the Win-10 Microsoft "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account" which will give you a Digital License for Win-10 Pro, simple and good luck.

This is what an 8.1 key to a Win-10 Pro looks like, that was registered and activated as a Digital key.

Unfortunately, I can't find the box and other accessories when I bought the computer, so the key has been lost

Yeah, when they did the move from the W7 versions to the W8 versions they did away with the key sticker. There had been too many situations where someone bought a new computer and the key wouldn't work because it had already been used. It seems that employees of some of the manufacturers or distributors were copying the keys down and then selling them. Someone would buy the pirated key and activate their machine before the valid machine would get into the consumers hand... So now the key is stored in the UEFI BIOS and really is linked to that specific machine. Yours may have gotten corrupted in order to lose the activation, or the MB could have been replaced, losing the key. It shouldn't be too much of a hassle to get it working right, just more of a hassle than if it hasn't gone bad. :)

This is really a helpless situation, :s a printer server or file server may be its last role.

What did Microsoft say when you tried the phone activation?
