Acer Aspire TC-780 Upgrading

Hey everyone!

I was looking into upgrading my ACER TC-780 and I am just curious on your thoughts on how I would go about upgrading to be able to play a game in the future that requires these specifications. I am just curious if it would be cheaper to upgrade or possible have to build a new system? Any feedback would be great. Thank you in advance.

Here are some of the recommended system requirements:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz / AMD Ryzen R5 1600
RAM: 16 GB RAM
GPU: AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 8GB or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

The game wants more system memory (you have 8GB and they want you to have 16GB) and a more powerful GPU (yours is the builtin Intel HD 630). You'll need to buy a graphics card that will plug into an expansion slot in your machine. Think of the GPU as a add-on computer that just does graphics stuff. It has it's own processor (or maybe many processors) and it's own memory (usually optimized for graphics). So, your system has a 7th generation i5, they suggest a 4th gen or newer, so you're good there. You need to bump your memory, the TC-780 has two memory slots and supports a maximum of 32GB of memory. You need to open the side and look to see if you have one slot filled or two. If you just have one slot filled it's got an 8GB card in it, you will buy a second card that has the same specs as what's in there now to make 16GB. If you have two cards then they are each 4GB and you'll want to replace them with two 8GB card instead. You need PC4 1333MHz memory in your system. For the GPU it's all going to come down to what your wallet can get you. They suggest an NVIDIA GTX 1070 or better. You want GTX for gaming (GT without the X is for graphics editing), so 1070, 1080, and newer. Measure to make sure you have enough room, the hard drive might be in the way if the card is too long or too tall.

Thank you for your response Martin! I am curious though if by looking at the spec requirements I need, are you saying that all I need to do is upgrade my ram and look into a SSD? I've always been confused on a Video Card vs Memory. Is video cards just designated memory for graphics and if I were to just upgrade my ram would that be considered the same process? You can also upgrade the cpu to a more efficient Kaby Lake/Intel HD 630 at 35W TDP cpu like i7-7700 from the standard i5-7400 that has 4 cores/4 threads/ 3.0 to 3.5GHz/1MB L2 cache/6MB L3 cache and 65W TDP to a 98% compatible cpu like the i7-7700 that has 4 cores/8 thread/2.9 to 3.8GHz/1MB L2 cache/8MB L3 cache and has 35W TDP which is more powerful and lower sucking wattage cpu. And also go the full capacity with the ram to a 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2400 and up to DDR4-3200 UDIMM (depends on your budget) which will make the Aspire TC-780 an excellent gaming platform. And as "billsey" has suggested with the graphics card to either (and depends on your budget and wallet) to the GTX 1070 or GTX 1080 that range from US $150 to US $675. Just as an additional suggestion, good luck.
