I just replaced the HDD in my Aspire V5-571P and after re-assembly most of the keys do not work.  I have re-seated the keyboard connector 3 times but no change in behavior.  I have looked at the ribbon and I do not see any damage.  I have deleted the keyboard drivers and re-installed them as well, no change.

Is there a way to be sure I have damaged the keyboard and need to replace it?

Not unless you have a known good keyboard to try. When you lifted up the upper cover, you may have pulled the cable enough to damage it . It's easy to do.
