AC charger constantly connecting and disconnecting

Just today I started having problems with the battery of my 2 years old Acer Nitro 5 notebook. Even with the AC charger connected all the time, the power supply keeps disconnecting and using battery power instead. This lasts for a few seconds, and then it reconnects to the supply, keeping the battery at around 96% percent. Soon after though, the same situation repeats itself.

I have tried using an old AC charger from another Acer notebook, but the same thing happens. I also noted that the problem persists both on Windows 10 and on Ubuntu 18.04.

I've seen some people with the same problem here in the community, but I still have not found a solution. Could anyone please give me suggestions on how to fix this?
