It only seems to be slow when playing SPACELORDS...the computer takes so long to connect 1st respawn

Common in low-end devices if your system do not have stronger cpu 
What you can try is 
A)DISK DEFRAGMENT 

Optimizing your drives can help your PC run smoother and boot up faster. To optimize them:

• Select the search bar on the taskbar and enter defrag.

• Select Defragment and Optimize Drives.

  

• Select the disk drive you want to optimize(in which game is installed)

• Select the Optimize button.

disable unwanted services

1. Type System Configuration in the search box > hit Enter
2. On the Services tab >  select the Hide all Microsoft services check box > click Disable all.
3. On the Startup tab > click on Open Task Manager.
4. On the Startup tab in Task Manager > select all items > click Disable.
5. Close the Task Manager.

On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box >click OK > restart your computer.

You will have a clean boot environment after all these steps are carefully followed, after which you can try loading your game again.
