Aspire E1 - Headphone port - two way?

I'm helping out a friend with his Aspire E1-572, where he'd like to use one of these instrument interfaces with it.

It uses a 1/8" (3.5mm) input/output which could go into a phone or tablet headphone port, or in this case a laptop headphone port.

My question is, is the headphone port on this laptop 2 way? Will it act as a line-in, as well as a headphone out?

I have downloaded the manual and it states it is a 'Headset/speaker jack', which 'Connects to audio devices (e.g speakers, headphones) or a headset with microphone.

The last bit suggests it can accept input and output (headphone (out) and microphone (in)), but I wanted to check before I do any in depth troubleshooting. Thanks.

    Hello,
This connector is a combo jack for a headset so both signals are independent. You can speak, hear or speak and hear. The only issue you can get is the latency between play and hear through the laptop since the sound card is basic.
