    First question -yes!
Second question - it is normal to run at lower speeds because of the power management of your laptop e.g. it runs at full speed only when it is needed.

How do you know that the ram is running in "asynch mode:? As updating bios does not affect your ram as there are no settings that can affect and/or mod the ram in the bios of the Acer nitro 5 an515 42 R72M. Try also to update to the latest ram for the Acer nitro 5 an515 42 R72M v1.17 which does the following:
    1. Add RTC Reset in SCU Item.
    2. Add ctrl+S to show Touchpad and SATA mode in SCU Item.
    3. Improve system hang on PSP.

Also, check your existing ram if it hasn't unseated itself or unplug it and plug it into the other ram slot or use another ram stick (if you have one) to see if its the ram or see if the the ram stick is damaged?

Also do these steps to check your ram memory details:
1.Use CPUz to see your ram specs
    2. To check all memory ram details do this: cmd> run as administrator>wmic memorychip list full and see the specs of your ram and tell us the speed
    3. To just check ram memory speed do this: cmdrun as administrator>wmic memorychip get devicelocator, speed
    4. Go to Task Manager>Performance>Memory>Speed and see if your ram is running at spec figures for your ram

Then you will be able to compare all ram specs that you are running to the speed of the specs eliminate things systematically.

Here you see it is running at 2400mhz... But does asynch cause lower speed? And what does the 9.4 gb of 19.9 gb means? And how do you clear cache so you have more ram avaible

Does this looks normal? Can I upgrade my ram to 16gb with a 2400mhz stick from crucial? And do I get dual channel? Can someone reply?

i dont want to update bios because it can turn into a brick... And does is really matters it runs in asynch?

First of all one stick of ram will always run in single channnel as you have a single ram module, for dual channel you need two modules of the same specs and size. Your ram module can run at 2400 max so and that is the limit of your module, so no it can`t go over it.

and why are my nb frequency half the frequancy of the normal speed?

  • batmalin
    batmalin Member Posts: 4,231 Guru
Yes if you add a stick with the same specs, capacity, speed and timings. NB Freq is
the frequency of the North Bridge on your motherboard/CPU and isn't really determined directly by your RAM (though it can be/is a part of it). It can be hard to calculate, but essentially it is the NorthBridge Multiplier * Front Side Bus = NB Freq. Similar to how CPU clock speed is determined by a multiplier and FSB. That's my understanding of it, anyway. For the most part, it's not something you need to worry about.

So i can upgrade my ram without worries? And are the ram speeds ok or lower than avergae because of asynch mode?
