Secondary monitor not recognized

I purchased an Acer Aspire TC-885-UA92 desktop recently and am trying to add my secondary Dell E2416H by way of DP to HDMI cable and the desktop won't recognize it - I've tested the monitor by connecting it to my laptop via HDMI and VGA and it works fine. I've also connected the monitor (as the primary monitor) directly using the VGA port, no problem. When I hit WINDOWS + P and try to extend or duplicate, no response or when I go into display settings and try to discover the secondary monitor, it's not recognized. Seems pretty simple to me, any reason why this wouldn't work?

It's likely the cable. Converting DP to HDMI is different than converting HDMI to DP. You need the adapter that goes in the right direction.

So, the suggestion would be to convert the HDMI signal going out of the desktop to DP?

Yes, that should work, though the convertor will be more expensive in that direction.

Thank you - that was the issue - I got an HDMI to DP converter with USB power plugged into the desktop and a 6 ft male/male DP cable running to the monitor -  all good now!
