Dear,
I´m trying to resume an old laptop Aspire 3103WLMi, CPU Sampron 3400+. The laptop is now equipped with 512MB PC2-4200S-444. The laptop is starting.
I read in the manual of ACER that up to 4 GB RAM type DDR2 555/667 are supported.
I bought a module 2GB 2Rx8 PC2-5300S-555 (Hymp125S64CP8-Y5) but the laptop doesn´t start anymore (black screen, not able to reach BIOS).
I wanted to start with 2GB and upgrade to 4GB.
What is wrong on it?
Bye,

    Thanks for the reply.
May I ask from which component is coming the limitation to 2GB ?
    CPU or Motherboard...?
In the manual of ACER I read that the Type 3100 can take up to 4GB.
Just because I expect poor results with 2 GB only.

The BIOS chip hardware soldered on the mainboard often limits it to 2GB. Sometimes a BIOS firmware update might allow more. Your particular model 3103 wlmi is 2GB. Jack E/NJ

Sorry to wake up an old thread, but an Aspire 3103WLMi BL51 came my way, which ran fine on 2.5GB or RAM (one 2 GB stick and one 512MB stick). Therefore I can confirm the 2 GB RAM limitation isn't true. It almost certainly can handle 4 Gigs, though I don't have another 2GB mem at the moment to absolutely confirm it.
