I have an aspire v5-121 running Windows 8. It's been a nightmare for ages... I can't install programs or even open many already installed. It always says access denied or administratior required. I've tried lots of fixes that don't work but I just want to reset.

I can't access the acer restore program. I've tried alt and f10 when booting and both reset and refresh say an error occurred but don't say what the error is. I also can't restore to an earlier state via Windows!

Is there anything I can do? Like download something to USB and boot from that? It's really doing my head in

Sorry, only v5-121s with factory-installed Win8.1 have the potential for an ALT+F10 reset, factory instaledl Win8 did not. If you live in the US or CA, a Win8 installation USB or DVD might be available from the ACER store for about $50USD. The other  free option is to download the generic version of Win8. from the microsoft site http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery

Press and hold  the power button till the machine shuts off. Then press and hold the F2 key, the press the power button to turn the machine back on. The BIOS menu should appear. In the Security tab, set and save a supervisor password. Then save setting and exit the BIOS menu. Then shut the machine off again. Press F2 and turn the machine back on. Then re-enter the BIOS menu using the password. Then disable secure boot. Then save settings and exit the BIOS again. Then try the media creation tool again. Jack E/NJ
