Swift 113 Freeze (probably) solved by replacing SSD

Hi guys,

My Swift 1 113 froze up so now and then. The usual non responsive computer, with a moving mouse cursor which would also stop working after 30 seconds.

I'm aware of the VGA driver topic, and after installing this driver in 2018, the freezing while charging went away for awhile.

Recently the laptop started freezing again, even when not plugged in and multiple times a day. I ran some stresstests and when the SSD would peak in performance, the Swift would freeze almost every time.

I replaced the M.2 SSD and it has been running flawlessly for the last couple of days.

I thought I'd share.

I know it is an answer. However, had you tried to update the ssd firmware and checked your health with crystaldiskinfo?

Well, to be honest, no.

I updated all the drivers available on the specific Acer page for this laptop.

I couldn’t find the specific sata controller driver. Only a chipset driver. So I was also not able to rule that pit as the culprit.

It had a SKHynix ssd. I tried to find firmware for it, but to no avail. I used ATTO ssd stresstest software. The performance with small files was ok. With bigger files (longer duration of 100% load) it would freeze more often.

In general the frequency with which the freezing occurred, increased.

There was 40gb free space on the old 128gb ssd, so I could use a bit more space anyway. So I upgraded to a 250gb stick. Also an excuse not to dig any further :-)

And It now does not have the prescribed VGA driver, which supposedly prevents the old “freezing when charging” problem. It has the most recent proprietary Intel driver.
