Aspire E 15 E5-571G Completely Dead and Not Booting Up
Hi all! Quite a long one, I'm afraid, but I've tried to include as much as info as possible so that it might be easier to diagnose. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I've had my Aspire E 15 E5-571G-7890 for more than 4 years. Haven't had much issues with the laptop other than a few keyboard keys not being recognized easily (need to hard press those for the key to register) and the battery not holding any charge. These started few years ago and I don't think its related to the current issue.
Symptoms and history:
1) When plug it in to the mains - the orange light stays steady for a few seconds and start to blink (I think this was happening for a while - and related to the battery)
2) When I press the power button - the blue light turns on and stays for about 5 seconds and goes off. Happens whenever I press the power button.
3) No sign of life at all when I press the power button other than the blue light. No hum. No fans. No beeps. The display doesn't light up.
4) I've not made any hardware changes, plugged any new devices, or installed any new software preceding this issue.
5) I generally use the PC daily, over the last few years and haven't had issues other than what was mentioned earlier.
However, last night when I was gaming, the game encountered a massive FPS drop (started to stutter). The stutter occurred on two separate occasions, few mins apart and all was fine afterwards. I don't know if there is a relevance, but I hadn't experienced that before at all. Played for a few more hours, shut down windows and disconnected the power supply. It wouldn't boot up this morning.
Troubleshooting (based on this forum and others):
1) Disconnected the power supply for a few mins and tried. The orange light would keep blinking as mentioned in 1) above.
2) Removed the removable battery plugged in the power supply and attempted to boot up. Still no luck.
3) Removed the removable battery for a few mins, refitted and tried. Since the battery has been bad for a quite some time; it wouldn't start without direct power anyway.
4) With both above scenarios, pressed and held down the power button for about 30s before refitting the battery/reconnecting the power supply.
5) I don't see a "battery reset button", as mentioned in a few forums, but I guess removing the battery for a few mins and refitting would count as one.
6) I don't have different power adapter to plug in and test. As we are under lockdown at present, I am unable to hand it over to repair center either.
7) I've seen a few posts requesting to remove and switch the RAM to troubleshoot, but I haven't proceeded to that yet.
Additional
1) With a previous laptop, I had an issue where the display/lid open and close switch/sensor thingy broke (the laptop thought the display was closed when it was in-fact open). Due to that, I've pretty much always kept the display open for the most part of the last 4 years (as I rarely need to take it anywhere anyway). I don't see any such switches/sensor on this laptop - could that be causing this issue?
That's about all that I can think of. I'd rather not dismantle the laptop - its never been opened. I'm open to any suggestions. If there's not much I can do at home, I'll be willing to hand it over to a repair center to diagnose. Care to venture a guess as to what might be wrong and what sort of part might need replacing?
