I am using a wired connection and the download speed of a steam game is horrendous. I had a cheaper non-gaming laptop before this that maxed at 4mb per second to download. I'm stuck at 1.1mb per second and lower. I have tried everything, with steam, updating the drivers in my computer, even trying wifi. I set my preferred band on wifi from 2.4ghz to 5ghz. Nothing has changed. I read a lot on the forums many people having this issue. Is there something preloaded that is bottlenecking my internet? (i uninstalled norton). Or is this just the case for these laptops?

How did you found out that the laptop is faulty and not the steam server overload for example?

Well, I've installed STeam games many times on different devices. This by far is the slowest one. I've owned another version of the Nitro and it was the same problem. My last laptop was a 499 Asus Vivobook not built for gaming at all, and I used the same internet connection, and it was 4 times faster. It is absolutely the laptop. I see it in opening my browser too. Many people seem to have similar problems with Nitros but why?

Well I have the amd version and dw speed is 5-6 MB/s over 2.4 ghz wifi. Many people have drivers issue not a hw issue in general, try to download something else and check the speed.

Windows updates are probably not the fastest, but compared to other windows 10 computers ive had, its just too slow. almost an hour, 94 percent. Once the update is installed and I restart, ill try the download again. But I dont think it will change anything. What do you think can be causing it?

What is the model of the wi-fi card and you stated it is the same speed on ethernet cable, so you better check the router or windows is messed up.

I'm going to try and reinstall steam. I did a speedtest, and it claims I should have 5mbps download and 2mbps upload. " "

I reinstalled steam, and set my preferred band to 2.4ghz because i found out my network is on that band. and still....500 kbps download. its really sad. I cannot figure this out or why it is happening.

It appears the problem is steam. I've reinstalled, I've changed my location, and everything. I'm installing MW and it is doing so at 6mbps. When I play games in steam, i get random packet loss also.

I am going to troubleshoot some more later today, but for now I'm moving everything out of my SSD to my HDD and seeing if that will help.

I began to install download a smaller game, 5.6gb from steam and I already see a difference when i use my D drive which is my 1tb HDD rather than my C drive which is my SSD

ive got a pretty small ssd. It was not almost full when i first bought the laptop. the thing is, the laptop has so much preloaded ***** on it and idk what i can and cannot get rid of. i might have found a small fix, even though i still experience packet loss and slow downloads. could it be my 8gb ram is not enough? or is it just programs running in the background taking up so much internet? it is just so strange, my last laptop, a lower end computer, but with AMD, was not having any connectivity issues through WiFi. maybe intel and nvidia suck?

You didn`t answer if you have downloaded a large file outside steam like the ubuntu example I have provided and I haven`t seen any speedtest screenshots  from a device connected to the same network. 8gb is not enough for gaming this days, but it is still OK. Both amd and intel have weeks and strongs...

So you don`t have any internet connection problems... 5.5 MB/s is very good speed

Like i said, after moving all my downloads and future downloads to my HDD it seems to have stopped. The Long Dark downloaded fast, I just tried to install Prey and that was i the high 5mb. MW was installing fast for Blizzard. But CSGO and PUBG, before  I tweaked everything, 500kbps download, and packet loss in game. When i had them on my SSD. So idk it just didnt make any sense, especially that i had to tweak so many things just to hopeflly get it to work. Im about to play CSGO to see if i experience packet loss. PUBG gets packet loss occasionally. I had to set my computer to force dump the memory cache every 5 minutes to minimize PUBG packet loss.

having 90 gb remaining and downloading a 10 gb game does not make it full.
