Hardware or software problem? Operating painfully slow, whirring and crashing.

Dear community - I have had problems with my computer that I assumed was a virus, but after every virus/malware/everything scan nothing can be found. My computer runs painfully slow. The drive or fan is always whirring - like the computer is working hard. And it crashes every time the computer goes to sleep. I have asked ACER support - and one said that it was a software problem and suggested the extended warranty. When I called back the next day, they said it was a hardware problem and that they couldn't help me. So, not sure what to do. Any suggestions on what to do? Computer is a Aspire E15 with Windows 10. Thanks for any help!

actually, I'm still trying to get out of safe mode - stuck there since the last problem with the password. So, stuck a paper clip into the battery reset button on the back - but that didn't seem to work, so trying again.

But that doesn't seem to do anything. Feels like an empty space when I put the paper clip in.

Thanks GAMING - I'm still stuck in SAFE MODE from my password problem. Any idea how to get out of that? And not sure what you mean by 'reset your window'.

What is your laptops model? As its a bit hard to advise you if you don't tell us the model number!

What I would suggest is that you try these steps first. How to access Advanced startup using Automatic Repair if Windows 10 doesn’t start on your device, and you don’t have the operating system installation files, you can use the following steps:

1. Press the power button.

2. Immediately after the Power-On Self-Test (POST), press the power button again to shutdown.

3. Repeat the previous steps No. 1 and No. 2 twice, and in the third restart the operating system should enter into the Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE), where a number of diagnostics will be performed to try fix any booting issues, but you will also get an option to access the Windows Startup Settings.

4. Select your account, and enter the your password.

5. Click the Continue button.

6. Click the Advanced startup button to continue.

After you complete the steps, Windows 10 will open the Advanced startup environment. In the Advanced options screen, you can access a number of troubleshooting options, such as “System Restore” to restore your PC to a previous good working condition. You can also access the “System Image Recovery” tool, which let you recover Windows 10, settings, and programs from a specific full system backup. And you can fix various common problems, like bootloader issues that stops the operating system from loading using “Startup Repair”.

Thanks for all this. My computer is an ACER Aspire E15 E5-576G-5762 - Windows 10.

I think I need to wipe my whole system and start from scratch somehow. When I got it I dumped everything in from my old computer into a separate user profile, and then had it formatted for a new user. But I think I may have brought in something from my old computer.

But for starters I want to back up some pictures and scans. I'm not sure about backing up the whole thing because there is something wrong in there. So, do you think i should get a thumb drive and just copy those things I need? And then reset the whole system?

If that makes sense, any guidance on that would be appreciated.
