Hi,

I still have and use my Acer Aspire One D255E laptop that was bought back in 2012.

Currently, my programs are no longer working so I'd to reinstall windows 8.1. I have the operating system on a separate USB but all the videos I've watched are suggesting to have a disk drive... which this laptop doesn't have.

Nothing on this laptop works as before. I'm getting errors for .net framework 2.0 installations, errors for windows update, errors for installing programs etc.

I've realised that I'm out of my depth and I'm in of some knowledgeable help, please?

Your laptop has an MBR partitioned hard drive and originally shipped with Win7 installed in 2012, not Win8.1. Where did you get the Win8.1 installation stick? It's probably not set up to install Win8.1 on an MBR HDD. Jack E/NJ

    Hi JackE,

    Thank you for your response.

The windows 8.1 was installed for me by an IT specialist back in college. I had an issue with my laptop and he offered to fix it for me. He installed the windows 8.1 as a gift, I guess?

So I'm not aware of how he did it.

OK. Where did you get or how did you create this Win8.1 installation stick? Jack E/NJ

I don't know he did it. I was not present when he was doing all the changes on the laptop.

He was the college's IT specialist. I'm sure he knew out how.

Maybe this will help: my OS was the same as the college's system. I had my own account to login to and there was an administrator's account, which I presume was his?

OK. Go to this link and click on the Win8.1 recovery. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery   From there, you will be able to create a Win8.1 installation USB drive that you can boot from and use to install a fresh copy of Win8.1 back onto your netbook. Jack E/NJ
