I have an Acer Aspire V5 wide screen. i have had it since December of 2012. the housing on the lower portion recently broke causing the corner of the housing near the lower left corner of the screen to rise up when i was closing the laptop. when this happened it pressed into the screen and cracked  the screen. and making the unit useless as the digitaliser on the touch screen is touching the screen in several different places, making it impossible to log into the computer as i can not get the password square illuminated long enough to enter my password. i have used laptops for 20 plus years and have never has a laptop do this. is there anything that can be done? i really feel this is a badly designed laptop.

Sorry. If it was mine, I'd repair the housing myself with two-part epoxy like JBWeld and simply replace the screen. Depending on the V5 model number of that vintage, I'm guessing a new replacement WXGA 17.3"  screen would be priced around $60 USD. Jack E/NJ
