It's normal that the HDD usage spikes whenever you do a hard drive diagnostic test. Such utilities put additional stress on the drive during the testing, copying, antivirus scanning.
You could try
Open my pc right click on the drive you want to scan. Click Properties, go to the Tools tab and click Check Now

I have a very new laptop, the A514-52 model. I paid at least 500 Euro for it and its actually awful. The CPU occasionally runs at a very high CPU Usage but goes very quicly down as i click on Task Manager so that it appears its not. It just cannot handle software such as adobe or even the SKY Software or it will run up to 100% CPU and high memory usage.
I had an Acer for 5 years or 20 before this one and caused me little to no trouble. I had a HP Pavillion Touch Screen that caused so much trouble before this. I bought it in Currys who would not give me my money back only a refund so i could not even go elsewhere for a different laptop.
The customer assistant showed me how the shop model handled multiple applications open at ones and he described the 10th Gen I3 as the Turbo Edition one.
Has anyone any ideas how this can be fixed?
You can try to alleviate this problem by unpluging your laptop, as this might remove the 100% drive usage for as long as you have it plugged out and try to enable and disabling intel rapid storage technology
Hope this helps
Are you still using traditional, spinning HDD in your systems? If so, it will be slow for sure. If the copying process involves one spinning HDD, it will be slow and disk utilization will become 100% too. Make sure you don't use third party antivirus software.
Also, the size of the data to be copied will determine how much time needed.
If possible, make sure to use M.2 NVMe SSD for faster speed.
Swapped mine for a hdd I had lying around, 'I repeat lying around" and still haven't had the same issue to this day.
I really don't recommend buying acer laptops anymore.
