Acer Aspire 7540 Keyboard.

I have a problem with reconnecting the ribbon cable attached to the keyboard to the mother board.

I currently have three separate pieces.

Motherboard with keyboard socket

Keyboard with attached ribbon cable

Small black plastic retainer. Loose, it came off in my hand guv.

History.

The laptop had been out of use since Xmas 2013 when my wife purchased an I Pad.  With this Covid-19 lockdown I decided to bring it back into use but quickly discovered that the CMOS RAM battery was flat. So it was during the operation to fit a new CMOS RAM battery that I had to remove the keyboard.

Not knowing any better I assumed that the connector on the end of the keyboard ribbon cable was a standard IDC header plug so used too much force on the black retaining keyboard connector that it came out and is now loose in my hand.

I have managed to fire up the Laptop without the keyboard attached and using the touch pad everything appears to be OK.  I do not really want to have to plug in an external USB keyboard

Has anyone any ideas how I can re-attach the keyboard without having to de-solder the connector from the motherboard and fit a new connector.

Please see photos attached.

Many thanks

well before knowing about the bent connector I managed to get all but six keys working using electrician's tape instead of gaffer tape.
Now tried to straighten pin and the net result is now NO keys work.
The wife wants to use it for Zoom while we are in lock down so I have dug out an old USB keyboard and plugged that in and so far so good.

Many thanks for all your help guys!

Scotch tape is a wonderful thing. That's what I'm using right now to affix my KB ribbon cable to the broken mainboard connector to type this message  :)   Jack E/NJ

Many thanks Jack, I will try that and come back.  A good bit of lateral thinking.
