No Bootable Device at startup (Aspire ES11 laptop)

Hi,

I have an Aspire, model no. ES1-132-C8WF, which is coming up with a No Bootable Device message at startup.

The common solution (according to google and YouTube) seems to be to change from UEFI to Legacy in the bios but there is no option for this under the Boot tab.

Any ideas?

Looking at videos, the option should be above the Secure Boot line but there is nothing there on my screen.

I’m not aware of it being dropped. It’s been sat on a shelf for ages, this is the first time it’s been turned on in about a year.

I thought it would be easy but I’m struggling to create a bootable usb. Some guidance please...?

I have a laptop running Vista that I can use. I think the non-working laptop is running Windows 10.

1)Download WINDOW 10 iso from Microsoft site
    2)download rufua
    After download
Insert your USB then open rufus select iso→partition MBR→ready

After completing your bootable usb will be ready

  • In addition, you must create a password on the setsupervisorpassword and disable secureboot.

Thanks guys. I have downloaded the windows 10 iso file and Rufus v2.18 (the last version to support Vista).

I’m guessing the interface is different to the latest version as I can’t see ‘Partition MBR’. There are a couple of check boxes which mention MBR and Partition though, should I tick these? (I’ll post a pic).

There are no selectable options in the four drop down menus in the top third of the window, is this right? (I have an SD card inserted - presumably this works the same as a usb storage device?).

The only thing I’m confident about is that I’ve selected the ISO file on the ‘Create a bootable disk...’ line.

Maybe you can talk me through each line, saying what should be ticked etc.?

    Thanks,
    Alun

    4)16 kilobytes(default)

Ok, seems it wouldn’t work with the SD card. Have now got the bootable usb stick and inserted in the problem laptop.
I have set a supervisor password and disabled secure boot, saved and closed. Have tried restarting a couple of times but still coming up with No Bootable Device.

is there something else I need to change?

Thanks for your help, it’s much appreciated.

1)Boot in bios then under boot menu change bios mode from UEFI to Legacy
2)Enable F12 boot options (option may be under main tab)
Save and exit ,turn off you laptop insert usb→turn it on now keep pressing F12 to boot in usb

@GAMING6698, I’ve enabled the F12 boot options. But there is no option to change from Uefi to Legacy. (See my original post and photo).

@egydiocoelho - No, I haven’t done that. Do I need to do this before the rufus process?
  • I convert manually using the power shell as an administrator:
    diskpart
    list disk
    sel disk x
    clean
    convert gpt
    create partition primary
    format fs=fat32 quick
    assign

It works up until I type ‘convert gpt’. Message says ‘The disk you specified is not empty. Please select an empty MBR disk to convert.’

When I check, the disk is empty. Tried formatting it as well but I’m still getting the same message.

All done with gpt partition this time and put back in to the non-working laptop. When I hit F12 it takes me into the boot options menu but there are zero options available. All I can do is hit escape and it goes back to the same error message.
