Considering the search isn't working at the moment and I couldn't find any similar issue on the first 10 pages, hopefully someone has some advice or can tell me what the problem is.

Over the last weekend the screen on my laptop started flickering also I shut it off for the night. The screen has not come back on since. It looks like the rest of the computer works, I'm typing this question with an external monitor hooked up. I mainly want to know if there are any steps I could take before trying to swap the screen with a replacement.

Here are the things I have looked at or tried
  • Updated the BIOS
  • Made sure Windows 10 was fully updated
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled the graphics drivers
  • Hooked up to an external monitor (it works with it)
  • Tried the webcam since I think it uses the same cable that the montor uses (it works)
  • Looked for the screen in the device manager (it wasn't there)
  • Tried the FN+F5 and FN+F6 in case it was disabled (it didn't do anything)
I have run out of things to try and would like to know if there is anything I'm missing before I start trying to pop the screen out to replace it.

It is much more likely to be the cable between the screen and the motherboard than it is to be the screen itself. There is a certain amount of stress on the cable where it runs through the hinge, so can develop cracks, of even break, in the wires there. If you are in warranty it's appropriate to contact Acer support and get it fixed, if out of warranty then it's likely time to open it up to inspect that wiring.

Thanks for pointing me in a better direction, that's the advice I was hoping to get. The laptop is out of warranty, through Acer, Costco, and the credit card that was used to buy it unfortunately.

Well, I think I found the issue and it is beyond my capabilities to fix.

I do believe there was a short on the motherboard connector for the screen cable, as seen in the pic.
