Aspire E5-575 doesn't show an audio output for HDMI connection

Hello,

This has been an issue that has been bugging me since last fall. When I hook up my laptop to a TV via HDMI, the sound comes out of the laptop and not the TV. I've gone into the device manager and sound control panel but there's not output option for the other display. Disconnected and disabled devices are set to show. I've tried multiple TVs and multiple cords to no avail and have uninstalled/reinstalled the Intel graphics driver and Realtek audio driver. All drivers are currently up to date. I can't say I really used the HDMI connection with this computer before last fall even though I've had it for almost 3 years, but I do remember the TV audio output was successful the first time I made the connection, before disappearing in future attempts.

Does anybody have any other suggestions? I feel like I've exhausted all the options I've come across by googling.

So does this mean the first time you connected it with external audio was after last fall? Jack E/NJ

Correct, I think it was August actually I hooked it up to an older TV that I was bringing to school with me to test it out and it worked fine. After that I never got an audio output for it or any other set.

Yes but I hope this doesn't also mean you updated the BIOS firmware? Jack E/NJ

I did not do anything to the BIOS firmware.
