I  plan to clone from 64 GB eMMC to m.2 SSD  externally using usb to m.2 adapter.  Then install the m.2  and get to boot from it. has anyone done this ? any learnings you can share.

Which Swift 1 model do you have?

OK, Acer is a little ambiguous on these, some support NVMe SSDs in the M.2 slot and some support SATA drives in  the M.2 slot. Their note says: "SATA and PCIe devices vary depending on model and PCB BOM type." and then they don't specify which models are which. :( You could play it safe and get a SATA M.2 SSD in the 2280 form factor, or try for an NVMe in the same form factor and send it back if it doesn't work... Either way I believe you'll be able to boot and run from the M.2 drive, though we typically have people make sure by removing the old drive and testing, which you can't do with the eMMC since it's soldered in. Worse case would be to have the UEFI partitions on the eMMC and then launching Windows from the M.2. There won't be a lot of speed difference since the ?UEFI data is fairly small.
