My brand new Aspire 5 a515-54G came with a “HD User Facing”
USB camera and 12 year old Microsoft generic drivers. Windows Hello Face
feature requires an IR camera found in newer middle-high end laptops (Acer
Support does not offer any camera drivers for my model). The very old camera drivers
(not UWD compatible) probably cause issues even when disabled when shutting
down (Hibernate/Hybrid) corrupting Sysmain and Hiberfil.sys used by (default) Windows
Fast Startup feature (Event error 6008, 29 and warning 360): My reliability
monitor has not been above 5.0 yet (10 = reliable) since the date of purchase February
10, 2020. Windows Hello Face has been around for over 3 years now and latest Windows
laptops should have fully compatible W10 devices and UWD drivers. I will be
stuck till my next laptop with Event ID 360 warnings (already have hundreds)
that can only be fixed (new rule) with GPedit, unfortunately most Acer laptops
come with Windows10 Home (no GPedit) and I have given up on Fast Startup.
Bottom line; no Fast Startup possible without crashing, no
Windows Hello Face, erratic system, Intel WIFI Offload/Lso errors, outdated Intel
GPU drivers (not UWD), a 25 watt GeForce MX250 GPU card that I will never use
(no applications and requires AC power), fair speakers (low volume), Very slow
1 TB Sata-1 HDD (no SSD), only 4GB
memory and maximum 5 hours battery life (specs state 11 hours) and my Winsat
rating is only 5.0 (I expected 8-9). Should I spend a few hundred bucks more on
16GB SODIMM, an SSD and upgrade Windows OS but still stuck with the old camera
and Realtek speakers?
