I have an old AO1-431-C8G8 from 2016, and around 2017-2018 the computer wouldn't boot, and said "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key."  We tried Windows 10 and recently Ubuntu, but for Ubuntu it would stop for a second, before repeating the phrase, while Windows would load but say something along the lines of "The file was faulty," despite getting it from their website.  There is also a password on the device when you hold down one of the F# buttons that my dad doesn't remember.  Is there any hope for it, or should I just plan on getting a new one?

Likely the drive has failed. Unfortunately the drive on those models are eMMC chips that are soldered to the MB. I think your best bet is to replace the machine. :(
