Hey all, ran into an issue with my older Acer desktop this morning. It seems that it is stuck in some strange type of power save mode. When you power on, the blue light on the power button flashes for a second, but their is no response on the screen at all, not even the Acer logo screen. You can hear the PC running, but it sounds allot quieter than normal, almost as if it was in a sleep mode. The power button does not show blue, flash or anything, how it once did, even in sleep mode. Only way to shut it down is to hard press the power button for about 10 secs then it shuts down, but when powered back, does the same thing. Even disconnected for a time and tried to reach the boot screen, but neither worked.

Anyone have an idea what the issue may be? I know the PC has been running slower than normal for some time now, maybe it finally calved? I had previously done a fresh Windows 7 install last year, and it still ran slower than it should have. Just wondering if its worth putting any money or effort into trying to get this thing running or not? Any ideas on what it may be are appreciated.

Sounds like rather than a sleep mode it's stuck in POST and hanging before initializing the video, but not failing a test which would generate a beep code. Try unplugging everything you can, even the video card if it's equipped with one, to see if it'll come up with just the base.
