Need help - monitor drivers no setup.exe file

Like so many people I'm now working at home without the set up for it. I've bought myself a monitor, hooked it up to my Windows 10 Surface using the VGA cable and a VGA to MiniDisplay Port adapter and it won't work. Googling says download monitor drivers, I've found the drivers section but the folder that downloads only has a Set up Information and ICC Profile file, neither of which do anything when clicked.
Further googling said I need to disable Driver Signature Enforcement which I've done and it still won't work.
Help ?

That link says Windows 7 and Vista, I'm on 10. Will it still work?0

Yes, it is the same procedure. You have to install the monitor driver from Device manager.

- What MS Surface model do you own exactly?
- What monitor model do you own exactly?
- Brand and model name of the MiniDP/VGA adapter?

1. Surface Pro 3
2. Acer V196L
3. Rankie
Thanks for your help, I'm really hoping its something I'm doing/not doing rather than anything more fundamental. The "accessory connected" noise plays when its connected and it occasionally flickers so its "there" just not working properly.0 -
Hello,I think the issue comes from your generic adapter. I would suggest you this adapter which was tested by MS.1

Thanks for your help, before I spend any more money on cables how confident are you that would work ? Thanks again0
