I'm trying to boot into the bios to reinstall windows as my laptop no longer boots correctly.
However, when I do try go into the bios by pressing f2, I just get a blank black screen with an underscore on the top left.

    Nope, I haven't.
I was able to enter the bios normally when I first got the laptop to do a fresh windows install, but now I can't for some reason.

Do you have any peripherals installed, like a flash drive or DVD drive? You might be missing the BIOS window and going into a failed boot.

Only thing I have plugged into it is a USB in order to try and redownload windows.
I'm not sure how I would be missing the bios window I'm spamming f2 right when I turn the laptop on as well.

The article below is mainly about how to get in to "Safe Mode", but you can use the same techniques to troubleshoot, or get in to UEFI settings, or reset PC, or uninstall a Windows Update, etc...etc...

There's a method to get in Advanced Troubleshooting if your laptop has a blackscreen and you're unable to boot to Windows.

Usually if you get that black screen with a blinking cursor....that's typically because you tried to install Linux and made a mistake (not that I would know that personally----or would I?)  ;)

Lots of different methods below......If you read through the entire article, I'm confident you'll find a method that works.

Yeah, I tried to delete linux by deleting the linux partition which turned out to be a bad idea and now I can't load up any os anymore so I don't think I would be able to use that article.
I tried looking up how to fix this but they all involve going into the bios which I can't seem to do for some reason.

You have to get to a command prompt and delete the linux EFI entries.  Try to turn on your laptop 3 times and shut it off immediately as per that article so you can get to a command prompt.

Or try Alt+F10 to get command prompt....

    https://us.answers.acer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/35232/~/how-to-restore-windows-on-my-acer-computer-using-alt-%2B-f10-on-startup

It seems like I was able to boot Windows 10 USB by tapping F12.   I can't remember though.

Nope alt+f10 and turning the laptop off and on 3 times didn't work.
I don't think I would be able to get to a windows command prompt because the laptop is trying to boot up linux when it starts.
The only thing I see is a grub rescue prompt.
    Something like this:

I also can't seem to get my laptop to boot from a USB. I've tried all the F1-F12, esc, del buttons with the usb in but nothing seems to happen

Try creating your Windows 10 USB again.

    1. Download windows 10 64 bit ISO using the media creation tool

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

    2.  Use rufus to create your Windows 10 USB.....with rufus settings:   GPT, UEFI (non CSM),  FAT32

    https://rufus.ie/

If you don't have the F12 boot menu enabled in the BIOS settings, it's not gonna boot though.

Nope, tried recreating the windows 10 usb again like you said but it still doesn't want to boot from it.
Might have to just give up and try sending it to acer.
    Thanks for your help anyways

You're welcome.  Sorry I can't remember how I got to command prompt and deleted the linux EFI entries.  I'm just completely drawing a blank.

way up that thread, there is a reference to opensuse.  Any chance there was an install of 42.3 (a very slow one)?

    @Gawain

That opensuse was just an example that I found on the internet where someone was deleting the opensuse EFI entries.

To the best of my recollection, this is how I was able to get to a command prompt (boot Windows 10 USB).

    1. Create Windows 10 USB drive
    2. Turn off laptop by pressing and holding power button until it shuts off.
    3. Insert Windows 10 USB drive
    4.  Start rapidly spamming F12  key (even before you turn on the laptop)
    5.  Turn on laptop while continuing to rapidly spam F12
    6. if Windows USB boots,  when you see “Windows Setup“, press Shift+F10 to get command prompt, and then follow guide to delete all Linux EFI entries.

But again, if F12 boot menu wasn't previously enabled in BIOS settings, it's never going to work.

Also, I noticed some SF314-52 do have a "legacy mode"......so if you had installed linux in legacy mode, my rufus instructions won't work.  You'll have to create a different Windows 10 USB with rufus.  I assumed your SF314-52 was in UEFI mode with the rufus settings:  GPT, UEFI (non CSM), FAT32

Anyway, I thought I would give you one last thought before you sent to Acer.

Edit: You could try to boot any USB....Windows, linux.....doesn't matter.
@Gawain is the linux guru....he might have more ideas.

Yeah, your UEFI settings are launching grub, and grub is not allowing enough time to get the BIOS key press registered. Click the key faster... :)

I don't think that's the problem because whenever I do press f2 I just get a completely blank screen with a white underscore in the top left for some reason
