In the evening when I am finished using my computer I close the lid or turn on sleep mode. In the morning there is never enough battery to power up the computer and needs to be charged. Tonight I saw in the middle of the night that the power was on. the lid was closed (it was on sleep mode) and I saw the blue light was on indicating that the power was on. Anyone know why this might be happening?

Typically when sleep doesn't actually sleep it's because an app or driver doesn't want to let loose. Try booting in Safe mode and closing the lid from there to see if it happens when the third party stuff isn't running.

Hey billsey, thank you for your help. So I finally tried what you suggested and it worked! it stayed off all night. So do you have any suggestions how to "catch" or figure out what app or driver is giving me issues? thanx

Yeah, though it'll be boring as all get out. :) Use Task Manager and go to the Startup tab. Disable everything and reboot and test. If it's working right gradually turn on apps one at a time and reboot until you find the culprit. You can be slightly more efficient by batching them and test half the apps, then half the remaining, but each test is going to require a reboot and a fair amount of waiting. If none of the startup apps are the problem we'll likely have to look at drivers, and that's more of a pain.
