Hi all,

I have Acer Aspire ES1-533-P5QE with a built-in microphone. I wanted to connect an external headset with a mic using the combo 3.5mm jack.
When I do so, I can hear the sound via the headset, but the laptop continues to use the built-in mic instead of the one on the headset.

Headset is fine, I checked it on a mobile device which is sure to have a combo jack. Also I tried another headset with my laptop - still no luck. Seems like the problem is with the laptop.

Has anyone faced similar problem with this model? Is the jack that this laptop has really a combo one or is it just speaker output (that's what it feels like)?

Yes. Sometimes a headset plug that works on a mobile device jack won't work on a PC headset jack because the ring pinouts are different. You must use a PC or OMPT pinout headset. And sometimes the plug and jack don't line up properly or misaligned. So you may have to gently withdraw or press the plug in the jack further to get it to work. Jack E/NJ
