Hello All

I have a Predator Helios 300 PH315-52 i5 8GB GTX1660Ti

I`m very pleased with my Laptop overall and wondered if a RAM upgrade would be any advantage at all for gaming. I`m not what you would call a serious gamer, more like I just want to get the best out of the machine / hardware I have  :)

Just run a check on what I have currently, see below. Does this show I have 2 x 4GB ?

If an upgrade is going to benefit, Please can someone point me in the direction of the best type of RAM for my machine.

C:\Windows\system32>wmic memorychip get devicelocator, manufacturer, partnumber, serialnumber, capacity, speed, memorytype, formfactor
Capacity    DeviceLocator   FormFactor  Manufacturer  MemoryType  PartNumber        SerialNumber  Speed
4294967296  ChannelA-DIMM0  12          SK Hynix      0           HMA851S6JJR6N-VK  532BF420      2667
4294967296  ChannelB-DIMM0  12          SK Hynix      0           HMA851S6JJR6N-VK  532BF4E3      2667

Thanking you in advance  :)

Yes, it shows you have 2x4GB ram.  If you’re not a serious gamer, your 2x4GB will work great in most games.  And even if you are a serious gamer, your 2x4GB will work great in most games.

According to userbenchmark, the fastest ram for your laptop is in link below.  Your laptop doesn’t support XMP profiles but it supports PnP Auto Overclocking ram such as HyperX Impact.

The Kingston HyperX in link below supports JEDEC 2666 profile and will auto overclock itself. There’s nothing you have to do.  Just remove your existing two sticks of ram and install it.  If $170 isn’t in your budget for 2x16GB kit then go for the $93 2x8GB kit.

The Hynix ram below is also excellent.

Edit: If you’re not a serious gamer, your 2x4GB will work fine right now in most games.

You can look on your game website for their ram recommendations.  Example below.

Given that you are not a hardcore gamer 8 GB Ram should be adequate, though if you wish you can go for an additional 4. It will increase your gaming experience not too much.

Roman126 i would consider replacing your ram for 16gb dual channel 2666 either hyperx as suggested by @JordanB or vengeance the lower the CL the better but of course its up to you  to decide in my view 16gb its the minimum to game these days and as @MaClane said you can go up to 32gb

Just making sure before I order?

with my i5 would dual 16GB give me any advantage over dual 8GB? Trying to make up my mind 70 GBP for the 8GB vs 120 GBP for 16GB

@Roman126 It depends on what the primary use if your computer is. 16gb total is more than enough for the most demanding of todays games but 32gb would be future proofing. If you do a lot of CAD design or video editing then 32gb would be better

Please click YES if I answered your question

Thank you and have a blessed day  B)

Roman126 as @andylb stated above if you can go 32gb just go for it you wont regret it if you cant just get the 16gb dual channel set instead and either keep your stock 8gb dual set as spare parts or sell it to someone who might need it :)

Thanks, went for the 2x16GB Hyper X ☺️

Quick question, when it arrives (tomorrow hopefully) do I need to tweak any settings in windows to get the best out of it ? Or literally shove it in and away you go?

You don’t have to tweak anything. It’s plug n play.
You can figuratively shove it in, but I would literally gently insert it. ;)
