Hi, I have a VN7-593G-73KV (Win10 1909, Acer care center updated) and I'm quite fond of it despite how hot it gets. Recently I've had trouble with Seagate USB3 hard drives in my usb3 ports. The drives work fine in the usb2 ports. Other devices work in the usb3 ports. I've yet to test more drives, but some usb3 ssds worked. I've tried uninstalling the usb3 drivers (root hub and host controller) but it is still detecting my two seagate externals as raw. I will continue to read this forum, but any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

No I didn't miss that your USB2 ports worked OK. I only suggested using the USB2 ports to back up the files before formatting disk again  in the USB3 port. Hopefully it was only dust or debris in the USB3 port causing the problems. Or maybe a slight misalignment. But USB3 ports are still finicky relative to USB2s. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. You need to re-format the Seagates to NTFS from the USB3 port. Then they should work OK in both USB2 & faster USB3 ports. Jack E/NJ

Jack, thanks for the reply. I'm not sure that this is the problem as I have already tried that. I'm also not sure that I'm in a position space wise to move the files and try again, but I will consider it.
    Cheers

Sorry. Trying to recover the files on a RAW disk with a 3rd party tool probably won't cut it. You should back up the files you can access by some other means if possible maybe from the other USB2. Then do a clean NTFS format from the USB3 that'll wipe the disk clean. They may be advertised as USB3 externals, but were probably set up to work best in USB2 ports. USB3 ports can be finicky as you're finding out. Jack E/NJ

Jack, I think you may have missed the part where I have access to all the files. The usb 2 ports have no trouble seeing the partition as NTFS.

Anyway new developement. I plugged the drive into my wife's Asus and successfully viewed files and ejected the drive. I tried it in the usb 3 port again and low and behold now I can access the drive.

I will continue monitoring it and may post again.

    Thanks for chipping in though
