Chrome Recovery not working

When I power on my Chromebook (Acer CB5-571 series) I get a message that says Chrome OS is missing or damaged.  I've tried all of the recovery steps I've found online with no luck.  I've used multiple different flash drives trying to recover it and it starts to work and then I get the message "an unexpected error has occurred" and the recovery stops.  Any suggestions about how to fix this?  I'm starting to be concerned that I can't fix it!

    If you haven't done so already, follow the ACER method of powerwashing exactly. If that fails, then prepare the pendrives exactly as directed. https://us.answers.acer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27649  If it still fails then it's a likely mainboard issue that might be resolvable with a reflow as a last resort.     Hi Ibus:

    1.Try to download chrome recovery utility in the Flashdrive(8 gb) by using a windows computer.
    2.Insert the Flashdrive into the chromebook and hold down the esc key along with the refresh key by turning on the power key.
    Chrome os will be installed and then unplug the Flashdrive.

    I tried both of these methods, and it isn't working.  I've created the recovery USB (tried it on multiple different USBs), and each time it says "An unexpected error has occured.  Please refer to this URL for trouble shooting tips. https://www.google.com/chromeos/recovery"  I've gone to the site and tried everything there.  Still, nothing is working.  Is my Chromebook just done and no longer fixable?

    Your CB5-571 has a removable SSD inside that may have lost some of the connection to the socket or it might have failed. I believe the drive is a M.2 SATA, but I'd have to know the full model number to see which size it is. IIRC it came with either a 16GB or 32GB version...
