Hello,

I have an Acer Aspire V3-772G -54208G50Makk, Model NO. VA73.
i5-4200M2.5GHZ, NViDIA GeForce GT750M
One HDD with an additional second slot and a SATA adapter.
It came with 8GB DDR3 of Kingston RAM (2x4) 1.35V, 1600MHZ Unbuffered, Non-ECC. It has 4 slots.
I installed a 8GB HyperX DDR3 1.35V, Unbuffered, Non-ECC.
It read it in the Task Manager monitor as 16GB but I have 11,9GB usable and the other 4GB are hardware reserved.
If I put additional 8GB it adds up to 16 GB and reserves another 4GB off of the fourth slot.
What is the reason and can I release it? Or does my laptop supports only 16GB of RAM 4x4 in which case I will never be able to use the third slot in full effect.

If you need additional info I'd be happy to oblige.

Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
Have you tried swapping the modules around? If not, give it a try, you can also try different combinations and see the results.

Yes. Default memory chips (4GB) work on as a pair 1 and 3 and the 8GB chip is working in either 2 or 4 but only at 3,9GB capacity. The other 4,1GB stay reserved for the hardware. I cannot pair the 8GB with neither of the 4GB in parallel slots.

I've done the msconfig routine and unchecked the Boot/Advanced options' designated ram, disabled hibernation, and lowered the VRAM size  in the recommended sizes in effort to relieve RAM usage but, alas, to no avail.

I haven't poked around in the Bios yet, since I want to hear a qualified opinion first but at a glance and I know I shouldn't update if not crucial.  I haven't seen an in-depth option there that can let me set designated RAM, if I'm not mistaken. My Bios' version is BIOS Insyde Corp. V1.15 - 7.3.2014. and the Acer Support' is ; Date: 2014/04/28.

    I am open to suggestions.

I don't think you can do anything in BIOS because no such user settings available in BIOS, I have run out of ideas, please wait for someone else to chime in.
