I'm no techie, so please keep that in mind when responding.  My E5-571-35LV has developed a serious lag(?) issue this week.  It won't do two things at once anymore (e.g listen to an audio book and work on web) or even one thing if I'm streaming video (it gets jumpy).  It doesn't seem to be a dying hard drive (according to symptoms when googled).  Is it worthwhile trying to upgrade something in there?  Or is this model so old, I ought to go shopping for a new machine.  I thought I'd ask here before heading out to the computer store.

Your E5-571-35LV has a i3-4030U or similar CPU (is that correct?) as you haven't specified anything, but the E5-571-35LV CPU's are all soldered on to the motherboard type processors, so you cant change that but, your standard memory of 4GB removable can be upgraded to a max. of 16GB (*Not to exceed manufacturer supported) so check what is the max RAM that E5-571-35LV laptop can take e.g. is it 8GB or 16GB? As I don't know.

The memory in the  E5-571-35LV has 2 slots and can take 2x sticks of RAM, your hard disk drive storage drive form factor is a 2.5 inch drive interface of SATA version: SATA 3 - 6Gb/s so, you can update to an SSD 2.5 inch up to 2TB, which and with all these updates, will make your E5-571-35LV pretty quick and useful and annul all those problems that you are having.

It depends how much you want to spend? But upgrading your existing E5-571-35LV for a new 500GB SSD (which is the size of your old OEM HDD) for $69.99 and more RAM like 2x4GB sticks for $47.99 is a total of $117.98, which is way less than the cost of a new laptop. Its up to you.

to my opinion, it is a decent machine for daily task. if i ware you, as they already told you, go fo windows 10, 8 gb of ram and a ssd.
but, you also must watch the task manager to see what keep the laptop busy (if it has serious lag).
