Spin111-33 Laptop Screen Brightness Media Keys Reversed

I'm not sure if this happened after the last BIOS update or if it was always this way. The screen brightness keys (F5 and F6) seem to be reversed. F5 icon indicates it should increase brightness with the full white "sunshine" and F6 icon indicates it should decrease brightness with the black outline-only "sunshine". However, the F5 key actually decreases brightness and the F6 increases brightness. Anybody else having this problem? If so, how can this be corrected? I have looked in BIOS settings and I can switch the purpose of the function keys between Function and Media, but that does not correct the problem.

I'm not sure there's an issue other than the sun symbols printed on the key covers. The left-most key usually decreases brightness. So it sounds like it's operating the way should despite the symbol. Absolutely don't try to switch the key covers. Jack E/NJ

Yeah, the keys function properly but I believe they got the symbols backward. I didn't plan to switch keys. Too great a chance of breaking something and even it it went OK the symbols would be correct but the Fn numbers would be backwards. It isn't a big deal and something I can live with. Just seems funny that Acer didn't catch the mix-up somewhere along the line.
  • I know that colleague JackE has already responded, but it would be interesting if you posted a photo of the inverted keys.

See image. F5 is the full, bright "sun" symbol but actually dims the screen. F6 is the outline-only, dark "sun" symbol but actually brightens the screen. Maybe it's just me but they seem backwards. I have checked other laptops and it is the opposite of this arrangement. I have also looked at other photos of the Acer Spin-111 33 keyboard and they are the same as mine.

Sorry. That's the way they're supposed to be. If you had white keys with black stencils you'd think they were correct. I have white keys with blue stencils. I also have one with black keys with white stencils. Looks good to me. I just try to remember my left from my right when using the black keys.  :)   Jack E/NJ

  • In nitro 5 models they are also like that. The full, bright sun symbol reduces glare and the dark sun symbol increases brightness.

Interesting. On your white keys I think the coloration makes much more sense. Other pics I posted are from my work laptops (Dell Latitude and Lenovo Flex). The Dell shows what I've seen most often (which is opposite of the Acer symbols). I feel Lenovo has the least ambiguous labeling (+ / -). Lots of variation between manufacturers and definitely no standardization here. Anyway, like I said it isn't a big deal. I just wanted to check with other users on this. Simple process to use the keys for increasing/decreasing brightness. Thanks for the comments and posting your set up!
