How to stop laptop fan from blowing insanely loud? - Aspire 7 A715-72G

Hello!

I've had the problem ever since I bought the laptop (brand new) a few months ago. I already posted here two weeks ago, but since then I haven’t found a solution.

When the laptop is idle and NOT connected to the charger, the fan will sometimes turn on and be a little loud but only for some 10-15 seconds which can be tolerated.

But… The battery on this thing lasts for about 4 hours when I’m only browsing the web or writing text document (even with battery saver option ON in Windows 10). Because of this I am eventually forced to plug it in the charger. Immediately after connecting the charger, the laptop goes insane; its fan(s) start blowing to the max for minutes on end, then they calm down for maybe a minute and the cycle repeats. It is so loud I have trouble hearing someone next to me talking. I could probably somehow tolerate all of this if I didn’t have to spend a lot of time in a library, out of which I’ve been asked to leave (or turn off my laptop) multiple times already.

A friend of mine has this exact same laptop, the exact same Windows 10 Education version and no such issues. I tried tweaking the Windows power settings, but they do nothing; the laptop behaves as if I’m playing fifty games at the same time, when in reality I’m reading an article online or not even doing ANYTHING AT ALL.

I used CPUID HWMonitor to monitor the CPU temperature while Windows downloaded updates: Before I plugged in the charger, the CPU was around 40 °C. Then I connected the charger. It then jumped to about 70 °C, but at some points went as high as 95 °C and the fan(s) were blowing like a jet engine. When it quieted down, it went back to an average of 40 °C.

The fan is clean and there is no dust in there.

All this is causing me a lot of pain and I would be really grateful if anyone could help me solve this problem. Thanks!

Firstly, the Aspire 7 A715-72G has good case venting and the fan speeds are governed by your CPU/GPU temps and environments, the fans are there to cool and stop any overheating of the CPU/GPU of your laptop. In my experience and in most overheating cases, which is very relevant to laptops, is that their variation in their environmental usage affects the laptop temps, hence and that is why a simple solution is to use a good 'Laptop Pad Cooler' that consistently forces and enhances a good crossflow airflow of a laptops enclosed case ventilation! Yes there are other mods that can be made but and that is up to you e.g. modding the case and adding extra vents and/or getting rid of the ribbing of existing vents and covering them with a plastic mesh to increase airflow.

You said that "The fan is clean and there is no dust in there" but, did you open the case and check if the CPU and GPU are pasted correctly and/or adequately? As there are many instances where brand new laptops are not adequately pasted and this is a major cause of them overheating.

    Repaste the
CPU/GPU in the most common method which is the "Pea Method" where you put a pea-sized amount of thermal paste on the CPU/GPU and then install the heatsink over it. After this the thermal paste gets evenly spread on the processor with the pressure and temperature. I recommend that you use the "Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Thermal Paste" which is a new age liquid metal thermal paste that has an exceptionally high thermal conductivity of 73 W/mK. This liquid metal thermal compound is made up of a mixture of metals like tin, gallium, and indium. This is the preferred thermal paste for extreme overclocking and CPU delidding,

Note: this thermal compound should not be used with heatsinks with aluminum base, because it contains Gallium that reacts with aluminum and forms an extremely fragile and brittle material, thus damaging your heatsink. It should only be used with heatsink with a copper base and should not be applied to the aluminum area of the heatsink.
Thank you very much for the answer.
I did not go digging any deeper than simply checking the fans, because I wouldn't want to damage a new laptop which I can't afford to have fixed. I guess I'll open it up and change the thermal paste.
    Thanks again.

What BIOS version do you have?   What BIOS version does your friend have?
On an Intel laptop, the ME firmware is responsible for a lot of stuff....Thermal Monitoring, Fan Control, Power Management etc..

If you're under warranty, I think you should contact Acer.  Good luck.

The latest BIOS for the Aspire 7 A715-72G is the v1.26 dated 2019/05/14 and titled 'Fix F9 load default then save & shutdown will power on issue' which you should be very careful when updating the BIOS! Disable your anti virus and any programs that are running before you update the BIOS because, you could (which can happen in rare cases) brick your laptop. Also, I don't know if your BIOS will or can control "Thermal Monitoring, Fan Control, Power Management etc..if you havent got these features in the curent BIOS, as that would be an advantage but not the compete solution to your problem.

The bios is very simple in functionality so no thermal monitoring, fan control etc.

I got the same problem, and it is not about the thermal paste or anything related to that, but the real problem was that my Nvidia GPU was running all the time. So I changed the default GPU to the integrated from the Nvidia Control Panel and use the Nvidia GPU when needed.

Try changing the default Graphics Card to Intel UHD 630 and the Nvidia for only the programs that needs it. This will work definitely.

In your case is the thermal paste.I solved mine witch had good temps but loud functioning noise fan by entering the advanced bios menu and deactivateing the TURBO mode.
