Aspire V3-772G (VA73) - Flash BIOS?

Hi

I have turned on this computer after some time of it being unused. The power light comes on and the fan starts but nothing appears on screen. It flashes very slightly (almost unnoticeable) around once every 30 seconds or so but not enough to see anything.

I have tried plugging it into an HDMI monitor and it registers power, but there is no signal.

My understanding is that I need to flash the BIOS using USB (ExFAT) with the latest .fd file on it (I d/l this from ACER and took it from the .exe file).

My understanding is that then I needed to insert the usb stick into the laptop (whilst it was off), press FN+Esc and plug in the power cable and then press the power button. Everything on the web tells me that after around seven seconds the power button should flash, but mine does not. It just sits there. I have also tried the following:

1. Holding down Fn+Esc for a full ten minutes after pressing power button - still nothing
2. Replacing CMOS battery - still nothing
3. Replacing normal battery - nothing
4. Holding in the power button when turning it on (and holding Fn+Esc) - all that happens here is that the laptop powers off
5. Unplugging battery and power and holding down power button for 30 seconds to "flush" any residual power out of system

Based on what I have read (which could be complete rubbish), I could try to trip the CMOS? But I do not know where the CMOS jumper is on the motherboard and cannot find any manuals for this.

Please can you tell me the following:

1. Does this motherboard (I believe its NBM7411001) support the BIOS "Fn+Esc" utility?
2. If so, what is the correct method and why would mine not be working?
3. After downloading the files and unpacking the .exe file, which files exactly should be on the USB stick? I have tried with all files (at root), with just the .fd file and Flashit.exe, and then with just the .fd file - none seem to work
4. What should I rename the isflash.fd file to? I have tried zg5ia32.fd and VA70HWX64.fd - again neither works for me.
5. Where is the BIOS chip on this motherboard? In case this is just completely messed up and therefore I have to replace chip?

I'm not massively computer savvy and do not mess with the BIOS on my machines so not sure how this happened in the first place, I can only assume the main battery ran out and then the CMOS battery died too whilst it was unused.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Please note I have asked the same question to Acer support so will report back if they give me anything useful.

Many thanks

  • Please understand that the recovery crisis procedure can only be performed when the update of the bios fails in the procedure. By any chance, did you try to update the bios before the problem occurred? If you have not updated the bios, I suggest you stop trying the recovery crisis procedure. Have you ever tried to turn off the notebook, disconnect the lithium battery and press the power for 60 seconds?

First, don't muck around or do anything with the BIOS as you could brick your system (if you don't know what you are doing!) try this first! What OP system are you running? Is it Win-10? If it is, have you got a windows USB or DVD installation media? If you don't then make a USB one from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Then try to Repair Windows 10 using Installation Media.
    1. Boot from the media and choose “Repair your computer” at (bottom left)
    2. Choose an Option
    3. Select Advanced Option
    4
    . Select Startup Repair
    5
. Click on it and follow the instructions.

This solution will fix the problems which don’t allow you to boot into the computer. In the next screen, it will display the admin account with its name. Click on it, and verify using the account password related to the email associated with it. After verification, it will start diagnosing the computer and resolve any issue related to boot. This post will help you in case this step fails and you are stuck on diagnosing your PC screen. Once the problem is resolved, the computer should reboot as usual, and you should be able to use it. The process doesn’t wipe or delete personal files from your account, so you don’t have to worry about it.
