Hi.  i got a second M2 drive for my hellios 300. I tried  to install Pop os on it. I forgot to to change to Premium RTS with optane mode under Sata setting in BIOS... They work now, Bith windows 10 and Linux. But speed is not as good.
Any suggestions?  Thx

Sky_Corridors technically should work fine as long as both are installed under uefi mode regarding the speed if you dont have a (useless optane drive  only used to make normal hdds faster by caching it sacrificing one m.2 port that could have a ssd installed instead) its doesnt matter optane its useless anyway if your working fine in ahci i would just leave it you would probably wouldnt worry much about it :) if you really wanted to change it to uefi you have to clean install everything all over again and make sure both usb install drives are in uefi gpt mode the same with your physical drives they need to be in gpt mode uefi doesnt support mbr thats where youre at now as sata/ahci(legacy) only supports mbr.

Microsoft made all manufacturers to remove legacy mode from bios from all newer devices as they dont want anyone to be able to use/downgrade to any older OS (like win7 for ex) not supporting uefi probably all manufacturers will release a patched bios for the existing older devices to lock the bios in uefi not allowing any changes even with secure boot off anyway hope it helps :)

Perhaps the rst with optane mode that activates the raid, can increase the performance of the ssd. But I think that this only happens, only if there are two ssds installed. In my opinion, the ideal is to leave the ahci mode active, because that way, you will not run the risk of turning your unit into a recovery unit.

Thank you so much for the reply.. Something i dont understand is how do i install anything under UEFI?  TBH im confused about BIOS and uefi,   as far as i know to go to computer seeting u need to go to BIOS. and some say new laptops has uefi.  so mine as both? if both how can i go to uefi setting?  i once tried to reboot from windows into uefi setting and all i saw was just a menu like boot manager to choose which device to boot from...
Id appreciate it so much if you could help me. Thank you very much

Sky_Corridors so here are a few examples if you installed both OS in ahci ( better for sata ssds) in order to change to rst (better for nvme etc) you would need a clean install as the OS are booting with the ahci sata drivers and not the rst changing to rst would probably wont boot anymore (depending on your model as i said above newer models come locked to uefi theres no option to change to legacy if you wanted to install older OS)

Heres and example of a bios from a G3-571/572/573 where you can still change to legacy mode to install win7 or older for ex

Now here an example of a the bios on the newer ones where you have secure boot enabled (im assuming you had to disable secure boot in order to boot from a linux live usb drive to install it) if so when you disabled it did u had any options available  to swap between legacy and uefi ?? if only uefi that means that theres no way to install older OS in your device and youre already working on uefi mode anyway

Regarding the ahci and rst optane (with(out) premium)  its just more if you have a sata drive its better to work in ahci but if you have a the rst with optane its more of an option for those who have optane memory for ex but you can always change it whatever you want and see if it still boots fine after you change it and if its faster or not

I liked your xapim explanation. I had even read a topic, in which intel stated that it would remove legacy mode from its devices, see: https://www.anandtech.com/show/12068/intel-to-remove-bios-support-from-uefi-by-2020

egydiocoelho yup its both intel and microsoft want to completely remove legacy support from all devices well technically if intel applies a patch to all cpus no one would be able to use legacy mode (32bit OS etc) again as its not supported by the cpus

Sky_Corridors just test your drives sata/nvme on all 3 sata mode options (if youre still able to boot fine after changing it if you cant boot after you swap from ahci to any other that means you need to clean install to test all options available for the best speed) and do some benchmarks see which one gives you better speed and stay with it  :)

It wont let me boot when i change it, It says ur computer ran into an error... I guess since u didnt say no need to go with rts so i will clean re install everything..
Just so to maake sure im on right page...
I go to Bios setting change to premium rst with optane  then boot windows 10 usb and format both drives. and install one by one. Right?

Sky_Corridors yes if it will not let you boot you need to clean install it then test it (if you have a spare drive you could clone your existing OS drive into it) so you wouldnt have to reinstall everything again if you wish to go back to ahci anyway its just an idea but mainly its exactly that way u need to change to rst save and clean install windows benchmark the speeds if it suits you keep it not repeat the process and go back to ahci :)

This time I will disagree with your answer. Changing sata mode does not require a reinstallation of windows @xapim. It is enough for the user to activate safe boot using msconfig and after making this change, the user must restart windows and change sata mode to rst with optane or ahci. Windows will install the driver in safe mode.

It is enough for the user to activate safe boot using msconfig and after making this change, the user must restart windows and change sata mode to rst with optane or ahci. Windows will install the driver in safe mode.
Hi. i have Pop OS installed too on another drive!  U sure activating safeboot in msconfig will work?  i will give it a try. cuz even tho i dont have anything on wondows or pop os. but still reinstalling is a pain. then setting up every setting, themes..and updates again

Hi i did as u suggested i was able to boot in windows fine it seemed but i was locked behind log in page... My adminisytrator Password for windows didnt work anymore.i tried every password. and still no go. weird...  Then i switched back to AHCI  and again same issue. My password doesnt work anymore.
