Boot device not found ater re-plugging ssd

I have an ssd with arch linux installed and today I wanted to install windows on a separate ssd I had so I put the windows iso on my usb and switch ssds to an empty one and I press F12 to boot from the usb but it's not there and I thought I just messed up writing the iso file so i try and go back to arch linux and the boot device is not found. I plug the ssd into my thinkpad and it isn't corrupted, there is nothing wrong with it. Since I didn't touch it there's no reason it should be doing this. This has happened to me before and I fixed it by doing a fresh install but this is not a good solution(as you can imagine). If anyone knows how to fix this please tell me.

Turn machine off. Then turn it back on and immediately press the F2 key to enter the BIOS menu. Set and save a supervisor password. Then shut the machine off again. Then re-enter the BIOS with the supervisor password. Then disable secure boot. And change the boot order to the USB installation stick. Then save settings and exit. Then shut the machine off again. Insert the USB installation stick. Then turn the machine back on to boot from the stick. Jack E/NJ
