How to connect an external speaker to the laptop? ( Acer Swift 1 SF114-31-C5NW )

Hi,

I have
- Acer Swift 1 SF114-31-C5NW laptop
- KÖNIG CS20SPS100BU external speaker

I would like to use that external speaker instead of the built-in laptop speaker.
The speaker works fine on other machines but I can't get it to work on this Acer one.

I thought the problem was the headset/microphone port which is a combo jack port and I bought a small adapter that separates speaker output from microphone input so I can plug my speaker into the speaker output. Still doesn't work.
I also tried earphones and they also don't work for some reason with this laptop.
The driver is up to date so it's almost like the combo jack isn't working.
Although it's not a brand new computer, it's not that old either.

Does anyone have similar experiences?
How can this be solved?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Sometimes when you plug an external speaker in Windows doesn't automatically switch to the new output. If you right click on the speaker icon in your status bar and choose Sound Settings you should have the option to change the output.

    Hi billsey,
Unfortunately, the speaker is not even recognized by the system so I can't choose it in Sound Settings... :anguished:

Any chance the plug isn't seating fully? Some have enough plastic around them to not fit nicely.

Unfortunately no chance. I've been trying to plug it in before as much as I could, because of a possible dust cover inside the port.
But I think they only have that in newer laptops...

Yeah, no dust cover that I know of. There's no chance you are plugging into the power port instead of headset? :) #4 here:

No chance billsey. I'm plugging it into the combo jack.

It sounds like you've pretty much tried everything. Are you in warranty? I'd contact Acer support as the next step.

Yeah, I can't think of anything else I could do. And unfortunately, there's no warranty anymore, so I can't even contact their support.
    That's why I'm here basically...

OK then, if you don't have access to a Bluetooth speaker that could be used instead of the wired speaker you could open the laptop up and do a visual inspection of the socket. It might have poor solder joints or a mechanical issue...
