A315-41-R2C9 , APU Ryzen 2200u, Power plans not working.

hello! I have a serious problem with my beloved laptop that i discovered pretty late.
wherever a change the power plan, [high performance, ultimate performance, power saver, balanced (default)], nothing happens!
to my understanding, when i select the hi performance, the cpu freq should stay to max 2.5 ghz. but no, it stays to 1.5 ghz. even the minimum state of processor power management is set to 100% minimum and maximum. i really don't know what to do.
if i move the battery slider (only available on balanced), nothing happens.
so, it seems that the processor is locked into a crippled balanced state. it rises the freq very hard. the max temperature is 75 degrees celsius.

No, this is not true. cpu only sometimes goes to turbo or max mode when the application or game calls calls for this. Also, the battery must be near 100% charged and the charger plugged in for the CPU to ever reach turbo frequencies even for brief periods. This is by laptop design to limit temperature and excessive power drain on power adapter and battery. Jack E/NJ

thanx! 2.5 is not turbo, it is the nominal freq. turbo is 3.4.
if the freq would stay at 2.5 and 10% load, it is not much heat. but the big advantage is that it respond faster when you need, let say cad moddeling apps, where you do not have constant loading like games or rendering.

where did you get this table? to me, this is the right specs:

i guess that the freq is somehow kept intentionally down by the bios. needles to say that, on battery, it never goes beyond 1.5.
maybe you would say....you should have bought a more expensive machine! but how would i know that they don't do the same thing with more expensive ones?

From the specsheet for this particular ACER model. Each manufacturer whether it be Dell, HP, Lenovo or ACER uses this CPU in various laptops, netbooks and tablets they make. Depending on the heatsinks, fans, & space inside each type of machine, the allowable CPU max frequencies can be different for the exact same CPU. CPU is only one part of a system design. Accordingly, you must look at the frequency specs for a particular model, not the particular Intel or AMD chip. Jack E/NJ

i have discovered something quite strange.
i have started the laptop this morning and activate the "ultimate performance". the freq started to float around 2 Ghz. this situation has been around for about 4 hours. after this time, the freq came down to 1.5. also, during this period, if i open up a microsoft edge instance (youtube or acer forum), the freq also came down to 1.5. but while using the cad program, the freq stays strong at around 2.2.

now, a had to power off and restart to check the behavior. and bang, the same thing: the freq float around 2 and, while i write this, it is 1.5. if i minimize the edge window, it goes up to 2, even it is 1% load.

i suspect that they have some timer in the bios not letting the performance power plan to go infinite. this is my understanding right now.

update:
i think that i found the culprit for this very strange situation. i have disabled hardware acceleration in chrome and edge and it seems to work okay. the freq stays to 2 ghz, not going down to 1.5 anymore. for now, it seems that it solves the issue, at least for now.

I am sorry, but it has nothing to do with the bios. Amd uprof is an official amd monitoring app. I just want to see the tdp of other users. I suspect that acer is setting tdp to the highest value. Thanx.

Yes, ACER sets this limit depending on the laptop design. Some are higher. Some lower. Jack E/NJ

OK. But the max frequencies and power design are still set as above in the specsheet for your particular model. Jack E/NJ

in the first picture is idling on balanced pover plan
the second, is idling in ultimate performance.
third: cpu is forced to max freg by furmark, only 2 cores.
fourth: cpu is forced to max speed to all 4 cores.

as you can see, it is far beyond the 2 ghz from the table.

Why are you doing this? What problem are you trying to fix? You must think these unversal freeware speed tests are infallible for all kinds of laptop designs and the ACER specifications for your particular model must be wrong. Good luck. Jack E/NJ

com on, it is not a "universal speed test". it is the task manager of windows itself.
and if somehow acer specs says that this machine has 2 ghz max speed, they are very wrong.
nevermind, for now, it seems that i have solved my issue. in a one week time, if everything works okay, i will mark this thread as solved.

Furmark isn't part of task manager. You are trying to push the CPU beyond BIOS design limits. Why are doing this? What problem are you trying fix? Jack E/NJ
