This problem happens after windows updates and other installs requiring a system restart.
I have updated the display driver (Intel(R) HD Graphics 620) to the latest and also tried rolling back to the previous and the basic adaptor several times with system restarts.
On previous occasions this has eventually resolved but without revealing exactly what sequence will work every time. Today it has not worked.
The Acer website confirms to use the microsoft driver and not a specific Acer driver.

Help to resolve will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance!

My system is
Aspire A515-15
Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-Bit

Thank you for your reply but I have found the answer below on another thread (thanks Jack).
I had contemplated the Uninstall option but was nervous of the consequences. Have faith.. it works:

Uninstall the display adapter in Device Manager. Exit Device Manager without re-installing anything. Shut down. Turn machine back on. Try HDMI out again. Jack E/NJ
